Ishkabibble's
Garden
Written By: Garry Bowles
Illustrations By: Bill Rose |
Ishkabibble was a garden mouse whose whiskers were as long as his
tail.
He had many good friends, but his best was Clarissa, the little
brown snail. |
 |
Ishkabibble he loved to eat and he dined as much as he
pleased.
Apples for breakfast, bread for lunch, and for dinner, he always
ate cheese.
Ishkabibble was a generous old mouse so with Clarissa he shared his
food.
They ate their meals beneath the stars , because it set the
mood.. |
 |
As Ishkabibble chewed and chomped his whiskers they would wiggle.
Clarissa was a well mannered snail , so she just politely nibbled.
Ishkabibble and Clarissa loved to nap but first they would eat their
fill.
Then they would yawn and stretch , close their eyes and together lie
very still. |
 |
Ishkabibble would snore and snooze as Clarissa snoozed and
wheezed.
Together they would nap and both would dream of apples, bread and
cheese.
Clarissa the snail had many good friends, but none that she liked
better,
Than a little bird with tiny wings by the name of Henrietta.
Henrietta the humming bird she wasn't big at all.
With her tiny head and tiny little feet she was really very small.
Henrietta's tiny wings would flutter a hundred miles an hour,
As she hovered in the air to drink nectar from a flower. |
 |
Henrietta the humming bird weighed no more than a penny,
But she had a really strong beak that was very long and skinny.
Henrietta loved her pretty garden and could fly there all day long.
She was quiet as could be. Didn't sing, never chirped, humming was her
song.
Henrietta had a good friend who was very sleek and racy.
A garden snake is what she was by the name of Greasy Gracie.
Greasy Gracie the garden snake could move like a lightning flash.
She'd wiggle her tail and her body would slide as she slithered through the grass.
Greasy Gracie was a small little snake about half an inch round.
Six inches long and colored green ,she weighed but half a pound. |
 |
Gracie was a silent snake, quiet as only snakes can be.
She moved through the garden without a sound -- footloose and fancy free.
Greasy Gracie would eat dead leaves and bugs, which kept the garden
clean.
She lived alone in a deep small hole and was very seldom seen.
Unless provoked, and she seldom was, she would never sting or bite.
Gracie was always happy, well behaved and did only what was right.
Greasy Gracie the garden snake would look upward to the sky
And watch her good friend Bonnie, the beautiful butterfly.
Beautiful Bonnie the Butterfly would fly with derring-do.
She'd soar aloft with outstretched wings, dancing as she flew. |
 |
Bonnie was a beautiful butterfly -- a true wonder to behold.
She'd float through the air on translucent wings of blue, green and
gold.
Beautiful Bonnie was so lovely floating through the sky
That all the garden creatures would pause to watch her fly.
Bonnie liked to visit her friend Clarissa, the little brown snail.
And when she did, she always perched , on Ishkabibble's tail.
Ishkabibble's garden was a wonderful home, on this the creatures
agreed.
There they found friendship, good food and all that they might need. |
 |
To Ishkabibble it mattered not whether you slithered , flew, or
crawled.
His garden was abundant and there was always plenty for all. |
